NEW OPENING: MANDARIN ORIENTAL MAYFAIR, LONDON WILL ARRIVE IN 2024

December 2023

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is set to open Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London in spring 2024. Situated on historic Hanover Square, the new hotel is to be a sleek, design-led and intimate property boasting 50 guestrooms and 77 private residences. Hotel guests and residents can expect to enter an oasis of calm as they experience Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service and a vibrant atmosphere throughout.

The hotel building has been designed by internationally renowned Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, who are behind the Lloyd’s building and the ‘Cheesegrater’ in London, the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The interiors of the hotel’s public spaces, were created by Tokyo based studio, Curiousity, who were wanted to create a strong sense of place and ‘a hub of nature and art’. In homage to local cultural and creative neighbours, artworks by local British artists feature throughout the hotel, alongside one-off furniture pieces curated by Curiosity’s founder, Gwenael Nicolas.

The 50 guestrooms and suites have been designed by UK based Studio Indigo, embracing British style and encompassing touches reflective of the Group’s oriental heritage.

Akira Back, the hotel’s restaurant from Michelin Star award-winning Chef Akira Back, will present all-day dining with 148 covers and three private dining rooms. The striking triple height sky roof and circular marble staircase leading into the space will blend with decor inspired by earth, wind and water. Dishes are inspired by Chef Back’s Korean heritage and his modern interpretation of Japanese cuisine, including the ‘AB Tuna Pizza’, with a wafer-thin crunchy crust, umami aioli made with ponzu sauce, tuna sashimi, micro shiso and white truffle oil.

For drinks and Chef Back’s small bites, ABar Lounge is the hotel’s unique, destination cocktail bar, with a contemporary design, buzzing atmosphere and an exciting line-up of live DJs. For epicurean delights, Asian influenced cocktails and panoramic views over London’s skyline, ABar Rooftop awaits.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will be an oasis of calm for hotel guests, residents and the local community, featuring an indoor 25-metre swimming pool, sauna, vitality pool, relaxation room and a variety of bespoke wellness treatments. Expect a carefully curated collection of treatments by a variety of brands specialising in science and sustainability.

Susanne Hatje, General Manager direct from the iconic Mandarin Oriental, New York, says: “We are incredibly excited to open a Mandarin Oriental hotel in the heart of such an iconic  location. Mayfair has such a rich history and pedigree within luxury, fashion and art and is  continually evolving. This is a wonderful parallel for our new property, which will introduce  delightful touches for which Mandarin Oriental is loved, but in a more intimate and informal  setting. We feel that our warm, club-like atmosphere, which flows throughout the hotel, is set  to make Mandarin Oriental Mayfair a new destination of choice in the area.”
