THE JIMMY BEAUMONT BESPOKE TRAVEL COLLECTION SHOWCASE AT THE BEAUMONT HOTEL
In collaboration with The Beaumont, some of Britain’s finest craftspeople demonstrate the art of contemporary travel. Inspired by the fictional hotelier Jimmy Beaumont, an invention of the hotel’s founder Jeremy King OBE to inform the interior design of the 1926 building, the exhibition showcases specially commissioned modern-day pieces which demonstrate the various skills of cutting leather, embroidering on leather, the process of tanning, embellishing pieces with hand-painted designs and commissioning specialised cases.

All have been designed to a brief, imagining commissions from a range of Jimmy’s ‘friends’ (all depicted in The Colony Grill Room in caricatures by San Francisco artist John Mattos), to capture the character of the Art Deco hotel. A carefully selected range of vintage travel pieces from the early 20th century, a more luxurious era of travel, will be shown, highlighting a time when travelling with bespoke items, whether steamer trunks, writing cases, map cases, dressing sets or cigar caddies, was the norm.

The exhibition will run throughout the duration of London Craft Week and will foster a collaboration between the 5* hotel and the makers of luxury travel pieces in leather and canvas, many beautifully embellished.
