Telling the story of one of the world’s greatest art galleries in a new light, MY NATIONAL GALLERY, LONDON arrived in cinemas nationwide on 4th June, co-directed by Ali Ray (Klimt & The Kiss) and Phil Grabsky (Hopper: an American love story). This arrival celebrates the National Gallery’s bicentenary - 200 years of bringing people and paintings together.

From the award-winning film company and unique arts brand Exhibition on Screen (Vermeer: The Greatest Exhibition, John Singer Sargent: Fashion & Swagger), the 90 minute MY NATIONAL GALLERY, LONDON gives voice to those whose lives have been touched by the Gallery – beloved celebrities, devoted staff members, every day visitors and world class experts come together to paint a unique portrait of the iconic British institution.

Claudia Winkleman, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, Jacqueline Wilson and HRH Princess Eugenie all let us in to their deeply personal connection with the National Gallery. Each interviewee identifies the one artwork which means the most to them, making surprising choices of both well-known masterpieces and hidden gems.

Discover the source of the famous “Python foot”, the artwork described as Turner’s “science fiction” painting and the work that became a conversation starter in shopping centres and prisons - the film explores how the power of great art lies in its ability to communicate with anyone, no matter their art historical knowledge, their background or their beliefs.

Melissa Chaplin, writer at The Mayfair Musings, says: “My National gallery is a wonderfully moving portrayal of one of our great cultural treasures. It’s a great reminder that we are all entitled to, and should, enjoy art.”

The National Gallery is one of the greatest art galleries in the world, with free admission. Founded by Parliament in 1824, the Gallery houses the nation’s collection of paintings in the Western European tradition from the late 13th to the early 20th century. The collection includes works by Bellini, Cézanne, Degas, Leonardo, Monet, Raphael, Rembrandt, Renoir, Rubens, Titian, Turner, Van Dyck, Van Gogh and Velázquez. The Gallery aims to enhance the collection, care for it, and provide the best possible access to visitors.
