THE SARABANDE FOUNDATION AT LAPADA ART & ANTIQUES FAIR 2019

To support creative minds with the potential to push boundaries and overturn prevailing orthodoxies. The Sarabande stand at LAPADA will showcase the work of a number of artists and designers that have benefitted from the Foundation’s scholarships and subsidised studio programme, many of them prize winners.
Artists and Craftsman involved: Coline Assade, Emily Frances Barrett, Judas Companion, Charlotte Garnett, Benjamin Hawkins, Harriet Horton, Shinta Nakajima, Oliver McConnie’s, Jonah Pontzer, Castro Smith, Esna Su’s, Andreea Teleaga, Mircea Teleaga, Michaela Yearwood-Dan, Emma Witter’s.
‘The Craftsman’s Dinner’, 16th September
Sarabande is hosting a unique and spectacular gala dinner in conjunction with LAPADA, with studio resident Emma Witter art directing a special immersive environment, celebrating contemporary craft in all its forms. Pioneering forward-thinking organisations and institutions in the design and the visual art worlds will be supporting the cause by taking tables at the dinner. There will also be a special auction, which will include a one-off piece by jeweller extraordinaire Wallace Chan, artworks by Maggi Hambling CBE and Sir Antony Gormley, exclusive stays at global Soho House hotels and lots more. The public can bid in advance of the auction from 15 August here.
Silver Moth Pin by Benjamin Hawkins
Jeweller and Sarabande alumni, Benjamin Hawkins has designed an exquisite silver moth pin, which is presented in its own Sarabande matchbox. The moth was a recurring theme in McQueen’s work and was chosen as the identity of Sarabande because it is a symbol of determination, rebirth and metamorphasis. Made in England by traditionally-trained craftsman, each pin has been hand-polished and hallmarked. The pin will be available at LAPADA and online for £149, with all proceeds going towards supporting the Foundation’s work.
