THE EMORY, LONDON'S FIRST ALL-SUITE HOTEL, OPENS ITS DOORS IN BELGRAVIA

July 2024

The Emory - Penthouse

The Emory, London’s first all-suite hotel, has officially opened its doors in Belgravia. The hotel is the latest opening by Maybourne, the brand behind Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley, and the group’s sixth hotel, designed by the late Richard Rogers and Ivan Harbour of RSHP.

The Emory embodies modern design and luxury in the city centre, providing a tranquil and sophisticated residential feel. Its iconic RSHP 'sails' structure overlooks Hyde Park, guiding guests through a secluded entrance. The hotel's unique 'Richard Rogers Pink' staircase pays homage to the architect, adding character and warmth. The design focuses on creating a welcoming, intimate space for guests to relax and find calm in the bustling city, with thoughtful details throughout, enhancing the overall experience.

Architect Ivan Harbour draws parallels between the innovative steelwork design of The Emory and the precision of watchmaking on a grand scale. He likens the building to a finely crafted Swiss watch, with a skeletonised dial that showcases every element of the sail structure with meticulous attention to detail. Harbour emphasises the beauty of movement and the absence of hidden components, highlighting the building's timeless quality in architecture. The focus on creating structures and spaces that go beyond mere aesthetics is crucial for lasting impact and longevity. The core concept of The Emory, centered around the distinctive skeleton and building frame, reflects original thinking and imbues the design with a unique sense of enduring appeal and timeless elegance.

Renowned designer Rémi Tessier has masterminded the public spaces of The Emory, from abc kitchens and The Emory Bar on the ground floor, to the tenth-floor rooftop’s Bar 33 and The Emory Cigar Merchants. Tessier’s interiors seamlessly blend a sense of warmth to the contemporary steel structure, complementing the glass façade with rich and high-quality materials, to deliver a mood of intimacy and calm.

The Emory offers 61 luxurious suites with floor-to-ceiling glass windows across nine floors, highlighting a stunning 300sqm penthouse by Rigby & Rigby. Each two floors feature designs by top designers like Champalimaud Design, Fu, Rochon, and Urquiola, all united by their exceptional craftsmanship. Guests enjoy privacy within the meticulously designed interiors, with bespoke furniture and Richard Rogers’ expansive windows creating a seamless connection to the outdoors, enhancing the overall experience.

Located on the ground floor of The Emory is the restaurant abc kitchens by renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, featuring his trilogy of New York restaurants abc kitchen, abcV, and abc cocina. Designed by Rémi Tessier, the space includes warm wood tones, polished copper, a glass wine cellar, and artwork by Damien Hirst. Vongerichten's menu emphasizes fresh, organic, and locally sourced ingredients, showcasing his innovative plant-based dishes and cocktails.

The Emory Bar, also on the ground floor of the hotel, designed by Tessier, features an iridescent faceted glass canopy with kaleidoscopic colours, and a dramatic stained-glass installation created by artist Brian Clarke. Retractable glass doors unveil a dedicated courtyard to complement the vibrant space, offering a unique indoor-outdoor experience. The hotel’s tenth-floor rooftop offers a stunning 360-degree view of the cityscape, showcasing two glass pavilions housing The Emory Cigar Merchants and Bar 33. The cigar lounge features burl wood accents and a unique lighting fixture, while the pavilions can retract during summer months, providing an exclusive space for hotel guests or private events.

The Emory sets a high service standard with a private chauffeur, daily English breakfast, in-suite bar, and personal Emory Assistant. Guests enjoy exclusive access to Surrenne, a private members’ club promoting wellbeing and longevity. Situated below the hotel, Surrenne offers a peaceful, minimalist environment, serving as an urban retreat in the city.
