10 QS WITH DR RAFFAELLA GABASSI FACIAL AESTHETICS & WELLNESS CLINICS
I recently had the great pleasure of meeting the effervescent Dr Raffaella Gabassi, who is truly talented, beautiful and humble in equal measure. We met at Charlie’s at Browns for a wonderful midweek lunch to talk facial aesthetics and cosmetic dentistry, and, of course, to exchange life stories. I am delighted to introduce Raffaella to my readers and connections!
1.) Good morning Raffaella, welcome to The Mayfair Musings! Can you start by introducing yourself and your business?
Good morning, Victoria, I am very pleased to have the opportunity to share a little about myself. I have been practicing in the field of Facial Aesthetics and dentistry for over 20 years. I am the Principal at the Dr Raffaella Gabassi Facial Aesthetics and Wellness Clinics. I am based at Harley Street and Notting Hill Gate.
2.) What treatments do you offer?
We offer a full range of treatments including dermal fillers, BOTOX®, lip enhancements, non surgical facelifts, non surgical nose reshaping, skin rejuvenation, medical skin peels, beautifeye and vitamin b12 injections. We are continuously expanding our list of treatments and will be incorporating some additional treatment soon.
3.) When did your aesthetics journey very first begin and what attracted you to the industry?
I have been practising in the field of Facial Aesthetics for over 20 years. In fact, BOTOX® was given FDA approval for cometic use back in 2002. I was among an early group of practitioners to use this on a small select clientele, patients namely in the media industry. I enjoy painting and have an artistic eye. I feel that art and aesthetics is about facial symmetry and working with proportion and balance.
4.) Why do you think the popularity of facial aesthetics has significantly increased in recent years?
I have experienced first-hand how popular BOTOX® has become among the general public. There has been a significant shift in patient demographics. Half my patients are now male and younger. Although, BOTOX® is still one of the most popular treatments it has been wonderful to see the facial aesthetic industry evolve with new treatments, fillers, Profhilo and skin enhancing treatments. We can now provide non-surgical facelifts with an array of treatments. This has all become very mainstream. There are myriad reasons for this. Celebrities are very open about the treatments – via social media- that they have had. Social media and documenting every aspect of our life with the requite posts and selfies has highlighted the need for people to want to look their best at all times.
5.) What is your "aesthetics ethos"?
I believe the end result should always reflect a natural look. Therefore, I work within definite guidelines in terms of Facial Aesthetic treatments. I do not administer products that are permanent. The aging process by definition involves change, our features change and we need to be mindful that treatments and the applications need to adjust to the natural aging process. I also assess and approach the patient in a holistic manner and encourage them to reflect on the advice I give before we start any treatment.
6.) Do you have a message for those considering facial aesthetics for the very first time?
I would stress the importance of research, the clinician’s qualifications and experience. I would encourage patients to ask questions regarding the clinician’s training and treatment. This is why I offer a free Facial Aesthetic consultation to all prospective patients.
7.) How can facial aesthetics and cosmetic dentistry transform peoples' lives?
Patients can find that even a small change can have a significant impact on the way they perceive themselves. It can boost self-esteem and confidence and can affect the way a person interacts with others. It is an established fact that smiling boosts self-esteem as it makes a person feel more attractive and confident. This can be the impetus for change in other aspects of peoples’ lives.
Another example is BOTOX® therapy for hyperhidrosis, This alleviates a patient’s discomfort from excessive sweating which is a result of a medical condition. This has the potential to be life changing.
8.)Where can we find you if we want to book?!
I am based mainly at Harley Street and Notting Hill Gate. I am flexible and patients can contact me if they require a different location and I can assess if that would be feasible.
9.) What are some of your favourite spots in Mayfair, and why?
I live in the Mayfair area and I love my early morning walks in Hyde Park and consider it my creative space. I adore visiting the local art galleries, shows and the many lovely restaurants in the area.
10.) When you're not busy working, where might you be found and what might you be doing?
On a personaI note, cooking for friends and family is very important for me, a homage to my Italian origins. My passion to learn about other cultures takes me to far flung places with my husband and my children. Happiness comes from chasing your passion and is always amplified when you share it with loved ones.
