Cricket Fine Art is delighted to announce Fi Katzler’s solo show, ‘Along the Way’, opening in September 2023. The exhibition comprises over 30 new oil paintings highlighting the beauty in beaches, mountains, sun-drenched olive groves, lobsters and more. Fi’s enjoyment of the unending adventure of oil paint is evident in her lively canvases, and each one is a careful balance of observation and imagination.
Fi spent her childhood by the coast in Hampshire, and enjoyed being creative from an early age. Having studied art in the UK, she moved to Aix-en-Provence, France in 2008 where she continued to paint, studying with the Gardanne Art School and the Leo Marchutz School of Art. Forever fascinated by Provence, Fi worked on a variety of motifs, often painting en plein air to capture an immediate response to the landscape. Drawing inspiration from the work of artists from the past, notably Cezanne and Van Gogh, her canvases took on a new vitality.
Nowadays, having relocated to the Algarve in Portugal, Fi prefers to make small studies in her sketchbook whilst outside; these sketches are then used for reference once back in the studio. In her recent work, Fi has developed a very personal use of colour, and with painterly brushstrokes she works quickly.
This is Fi Katzler’s third solo show with Cricket Fine Art in London. Her paintings are admired and collected worldwide. ‘Along the Way’ opens at Cricket Fine Art from 6th – 22nd September. The gallery is open Monday to Friday, 10am until 6pm, and on Saturdays, 10am until 5pm – or by appointment. An illustrated catalogue is available on request.
Fi explains, “I try to paint fast in order to bypass the intellect. If I allow my logical mind to take over when I am at work, the painting can become static and less vibrant. After more than a decade living in the South of France I have recently moved to Portugal where I continue to paint the colour and the light. Within this exhibition I hope you enjoy a strong sense of place.”
