MADDOX GALLERY PRESENTS MYTHOMANIA, A SOLO SHOW BY THE CONNOR BROTHERS

Maddox Gallery will soon present Mythomania, an exciting new solo show by The Connor Brothers in support of Teenage Cancer Trust. The Connor Brothers, also known as Mike Snelle and James Golding, are leading contemporary artists renowned for their exploration of the boundary between truth and fiction, known for their pairing of vintage beauties with humorous captions. Mythomania will open on 24th June 2022 at Westbourne Grove, featuring drawings and canvases from their latest collection, the Regression series.
Ideas for the artwork began in lockdown art therapy sessions, where The Connor Brothers produced childlike, sixty second sketches of anything that came to mind. This inspired a series of paintings in a purposefully naïve style. Although a far cry from the duo’s usual controlled graphic artworks, the paintings clearly show their passion for pairing images with text.
Simplicity, creative freedom and a childhood mentality are brought to life via fire-breathing dragons, unicorns, zombies and beasts; juxtaposed with adult anxieties, compulsions, desires, apocalyptic visions and childhood apparitions. Text describes modern trends, technology and obsessions; The Future, Social Media, Cancel Culture.
