COMING SOON: THE MAINE MAYFAIR, A NEW RESTAURANT ON HANOVER SQUARE
The MAINE Mayfair will open on Hanover Square next month, serving New England inspired dishes in an 18th century townhouse setting. This exciting and extensive project marks the revitalisation of one of the only remaining Georgian buildings on Hanover Square, led by Canadian restaurateur Joey Ghazal. The townhouse will feature 350 covers across five different rooms over three floors, with a year-round hidden terrace in the former stables, now named Medici Courtyard.
Described as “unpretentious and accessible”, The MAINE was created in collaboration with BradyWilliams, presenting old-world British Elegance, New England extravagance and a touch of the subterranean decadence.
Founder and Managing Partner, Joey Ghazal, created The MAINE as a homage to the childhood summers he spent on the East Coast. Canadian-born, Lebanese by origin but raised in Dubai, Joey has developed restaurant and bar concepts in Montreal, Beirut and Dubai. He describes The MAINE Mayfair as ‘a full circle moment' - he started his career waiting tables at the original nearby Soho House on Greek Street in the early 2000s.
The Drawing Room & Terrace, with 100 covers, is atmospheric by day and seductive by night - New England heritage meets a modern take on a traditional British garden. An all day menu features afternoon tea, small plates and martinis from 6pm. Breakfast dishes include Turkish Eggs, Lobster Benedict and Fried Oyster Omelette. Mains dishes include Steak Frites, Spicy Shrimp Linguine and Mussels Mariniere. Dessert time will bring Sticky Toffee Pudding, Tarte Tatin and Chocolate Mousse. Visit on Sundays for a Sunday Roast.
The Tavern, with 40 covers, is a speakeasy tavern, located within the original brick vaulted cellars of the house. This former servants quarters is now a quintessential British pub with Shaker style and New England architecture. Visit for dishes such as Fried Chicken & Caviar, Short Rib Croquettes and Lobster Poutine. Buzzing Happy Hours and Oyster Shuck make the Tavern an ideal after work haunt.
The Brasserie, with 120 covers, is where you want to go for The MAINE’s New England extravagance. Visit for the clubby spirit of a timeworn brasserie, with the essence of a debauched cabaret club, with impromptu live entertainment, OTT chandeliers and Hollywood regency sofas. Visit for full service dinner, a Raw Bar Counter, Saturday brunches and live band entertainment. Main dishes include New York Sirloin, Three Tier Poseidon Platter and Colossal Shrimp Cocktail. For vegans, there is No Meat Short Rib, Cauliflower Tacos, Pecan Pie and more.
As if this weren’t enough, The Drawing Room awaits. The original drawing room of the Duke of Montrose, this room now has “a mid-century aesthetic and a laid-back vibe”, with a giant apiz shell chandelier and a mirrored cocktail bar. Visit for breakfast, Lunch Prix Fixe, martinis and a lounge menu.
Finally, The Sanitarium, not dissimilar in design to an air raid shelter, pays tribute to the history of the building. For over 110 years it was in the possession of the Royal Institute of Medicine and it is one of the only surviving Grade II listed Georgian Buildings on Hanover Square. Many of the other buildings were destroyed to make way for air raid shelters during the Second World War.
