NEW OPENING: THE MAYFAIR TOWNHOUSE, LAUNCHING AUTUMN 2020
The Mayfair Townhouse is a new high-end hotel opening on Half Moon Street in Autumn 2020, overlooking glorious Green Park. This is the fifth hotel in the Iconic Luxury Hotels portfolio, and we are told to expect ‘Oscar Wilde meets Alice in Wonderland’ - a contemporary Georgian-style hotel, interwoven with English eccentricities and the adventurous mischief of the dandy. Half Moon Street, built from 1730, was once the setting for Oscar Wilde’s most famous play, The Importance of Being Earnest, hence the Dandy theme, with references to local history and culture interwoven throughout the townhouse.
Comprised of fifteen connected Georgian buildings on Half Moon Street, The Mayfair Townhouse is set to be a spacious, stylish and imaginative home for the modern traveller. Goddard Littlefair has transformed the interiors of these beautiful Georgian townhouses, of which seven are Grade-II listed. Respects have been paid to days-gone-by whilst adding in flamboyant and contemporary touches. Look out for the fox, the hotel’s mischievous motif, that can be sighted throughout design elements in the hotel.
A leading art specialist, Minda Dowling, has been busy curating unique and unusual pieces from both known and emerging artists. Clarita Brinkerhoff’s peacock sculpture is set to wow guests, sitting at 67 inches high and is crafted with 25,000 sparkling Swarovski crystals. Art-loving hotel guests can learn about the art through special QR codes that have been developed.
The Mayfair Townhouse doesn’t have a restaurant, but guests are invited to relax in the vibrant space on the lower ground floor - a library-inspired place to meet for breakfast or to work. On this floor, you’ll also find a dining room, which can be transformed into a private, versatile oasis for private dining and event. The Dandy Bar is set to be the heart and soul of the townhouse - theatrical, flamboyant and dimly lit. Visitors and guests can order bespoke cocktails including ‘The Mayfair Dandy’, an avant-garde take on the classic, hedonistic Dandy cocktail, and ‘AR Lenoble Brut Champagne’, Oscar Wilde’s favourite.
Guests can choose from Classic Rooms, Garden Suites and Penthouse Suites at The Mayfair Townhouse, each boasting unique character and high quality linens and robes, superb bathrooms, luxury mattresses, his-or-her toiletries, good lighting and intelligent use of space. Additional touches will include minibar contents from local artisans, flamboyant spare socks, takeaway mints and in-room cocktail kits using the dandy’s ingredient of absinthe.
Andrew Stembridge, Executive Director of Iconic Luxury Hotels, says: “There is nothing like The Mayfair Townhouse. When the property debuts in Autumn 2020, you will see something that has not yet been done. We’ve created a product - a personality - that’s exceptionally unique to our collection at Iconic Luxury Hotels. We’re looking to give London and travellers from all over the world, something fresh, something totally different and something totally unexpected. This is a new and exciting chapter for Iconic Luxury Hotels, and as we welcome our second property in London, we look forward to creating remarkable memories in the heart of Mayfair.”
