In honour of World Martini Day, George Club were kind enough to share their signature recipe for readers of the Mayfair Musings. Head Mixologist, Santo Borzi, has a selection of top tips for the cocktail aficionados among us.
Balance the flavours. Sometimes we are tempted to add extra vodka or more olives – resist this temptation! The key to a great martini is simplicity. A bar spoon of your favourite vermouth, a double of your premium spirit and you will have a perfectly balanced martini.
Stir, don’t shake. Controversial but true! The reason for this is that stirring, unlike shaking, creates a cold, taut surface free from ice shards.
Use lemon instead of olives. Olives often are served at room temperature and as a result can heat up the drink you’ve just gone to efforts to chill! Instead of olives, serve your drink with an expressed lemon peel to give it a crisp, fresh taste.
Serve it in style. The simplicity of martinis means every detail must be perfect. To avoid falling at the final hurdle, serve yours in an iced cold martini glass, straight from the freezer. This will keep your drink perfectly chilled as you sip it well into the night.
